North Lyon Fire is a full service emergency response organization for fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), wildland firefighting, and hazardous materials incidents.  We strive to improve public safety and decrease loss of life and property through our Fire Prevention and Public Education services.

Special Event / Mass Gathering Permit

The North Lyon Fire Protection District (the District) in cooperation with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), and the City of Fernley provides services through fiscally responsible use of public funds.  The District provides a diverse range of services.  This policy outlines the permitting process and requirements for mass gatherings / special events within the North Lyon Fire Protection District jurisdiction.

Burn Permits

 A Permit is required for any open burning in the District and can be purchased at 195 E Main Street Fernley during regular business hours.

Those burning without a permit, or not in compliance with the rules and regulations of the permit, will be cited.


Car Seat Inspection & Installation

North Lyon County Fire Protection District offers free child safety restraint inspection and installation by appointment only, call (775) 575-3310.

We currently have two National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Car Seat Technicians who can inspect and install car seats and give safety tips for children while riding in vehicles.

NRS 484.474 requires children under the age of 6 AND 60 pounds to be in a child restraint while riding in vehicles.

It is recommended that all children under the age of 12 should ride in the back seat.

Ambulance Saver Subscription

The Ambulance Saver Subscription covers all non-reimbursed amounts ensuring no additional out-of-pocket balance.

Subscriptions are $80.00 annually for a single person household and $120.00 annually for households of two or more people.

The North Lyon County Fire Protection District is committed to providing many educational opportunities for our schools, citizens, business owners, and organizations; including demonstrations on EMS, vehicle extrication, fire suppression, and rescue.


Plan Review

The Fire Marshal is responsible for ensuring that all new commercial construction, multi-family residential construction, and fire protection system plans are reviewed for fire and building code compliance prior to the issuance of permits, and works closely with his/her counterparts in the Building Departments of the City of Fernley and Lyon County in order to maintain consistent standards across jurisdictional boundaries.

Business Inspections

The Fire District conducts routine Fire and Life Safety Inspections.  Such inspections decrease the threat of fires and promote the public’s safety and welfare.


Wildland / Fuels Management

Every wildland fire season, the NLCFPD responds to major wild land fires across the nation. We are assigned to major incidents through the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) to respond as single resources, or part of a strike team or task force.
