Becoming a firefighter starts with you. It starts with a serious desire to commit yourself to volunteering to serve your community and state in the preservation of life, property, and environment. The training to becoming a firefighter is demanding. The nature of the job and service which is provided requires such a process. Once training is achieved, additional commitment to train and respond to emergency incidents is expected to be honored. To be a firefighter is to be held in the highest regard. Through your training and after, you will work side by side with some of the most dedicated and professionally qualified men and women of your community. Steps to Becoming a Firefighter With the NLCFPD
1. Complete membership application. Return membership application and all documentation2. Membership application review, interview and background check
3. Approval of application by Chief and setup of physical exam, and drug/alcohol testing
4. Start of Probationary Active Status for six months. Issuing of personnel protective equipment
- At completion of Step 4, firefighters will become an active-probationary member and be presented to the District Board of Directors
5. Web based training; NIMS 700, and ICS 100/200
6. First Aid and CPR Training
7. Firefighter I Course or Entry Level Firefighter Course. Wednesday nights and every other Saturday for 2-3 months
8. Hazardous Materials Training- Decontamination/Operations
9. VOTE REGULAR MEMBERSHIP STATUS
